Vintage Loring Checker Mystery: Haenchen circa 1940’s
Current bid: $710.00
Very early version of this effect. It includes the original heavy fluted glasses and a box to carry the glasses which we have not seen before.
By Haenchen and Company. A cabinet measuring 13.5″ wide x 8 1/4” high x 7.5” deep is shown with a stack of 7 different colored checkers 4” in diameter and a cover for same. The front and back doors are opened to show empty and then closed. Three glasses of water and two large silks are produced! The checker cover is shown empty and placed in one side of the cabinet and checkers placed in the other side with doors then closed. The doors are opened and cover raised showing the checkers have changed sides passing through the solid partition and the metal cover! The cover is placed over one of the glasses of water on the table and then magically the checkers are now under the cover and the glass of water is in the cabinet! The glass now passed back to the cover on the table while the checkers pass into the other side of the cabinet. The magician then produces a fourth glass of water. The cabinet is made of wood as well as the checkers. Includes 4 glasses (silks not supplied). In very good condition.
There is a lot going on inside that cabinet with pivoting panels and revolving load chambers with gimmicks on the wood doors themselves as well. All four front and back doors on the cabinet do completely open so you can look directly through the cabinet. The open door photo i took is with the rear doors open.
Catalogue photo is form 1940 catalog which is not included.
